The operating room is one of the most complex and expensive links of the hospital, which has a direct impact on the efficiency of the entire institution. Today, however, many operations still operate based on manual solutions: inventory tracking is carried out on paper or Excel tables, preparation for operations is not standardized, and supply processes are often complicated by information delays or inefficient coordination between departments.
March 21 At the national conference “Challenges of Work in the Operating Room. Trends. Solutions. Opportunities.”, which was organized by the Lithuanian Society of Operating Nurses (LOSD) and Vilnius University, these problems were openly discussed. The event brought together the members of the Chief Operating Officer. nurses, nursing managers and other health care professionals seeking systemic change.
According to the RAIT study, more than 80% of operating room staff spend up to 3 hours a day on manual inventory management. Almost half of the respondents have faced situations where operations have been delayed due to late or undelivered measures.
At the conference, the speakers emphasized not only the scale of these challenges, but also named solutions that are already in place in other hospitals:
- Implementing digital planning and optimizing patient flows can increase operating room productivity by up to 20%.
- RFID-based inventory tracking means fewer errors, more accurate information, and less stress on the team.
- Personalized surgical kits ensure faster and more accurate preparation for operations and help reduce waste.
- Value-based healthcare (VBHC) is about the outcomes, not the number of procedures.
- Patient-based care – the service model is patient-centric, not structural units.
To achieve real change, it is necessary to move away from reactive problem solving and move towards standardized processes, automated delivery, and solutions based on real-time data.
More and more hospitals are moving in this direction, and the AmberCell Solutions team is contributing as a partner to help implement smart solutions that facilitate operations preparation, optimize inventory management, and reduce staffing loads.
The modernization of operating rooms is not only a technological step forward, but also an essential foundation for an efficient, sustainable and patient-friendly hospital.
