First pulmonary cryoablation at Tartu University Hospital

The first lung cryoablation procedure was performed at Tartu University Hospital. This is an important step in the development of interventional oncology services in the region.

Radiologists, interventional radiologists, pulmonologists, oncologists and thoracic surgeons participated in the program. They discussed minimally invasive treatment strategies for lung tumors.

During the session, Dr. Aurimas Mačionis, an interventional radiologist at LSMUL Kaunas Clinics, presented modern methods of interventional oncology. These include radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation and cryoablation. Scientific recommendations were also discussed. Clinical experience in the application of microwave ablation for the treatment of lung tumors was also presented.

The first cryoablation procedure at Tartu University Hospital was performed by interventional radiologists Dr. Martin Reim and Dr. Kaur Valk. The expert supervision of the procedure was ensured by Dr. Aurimas Mačionis.

Such achievements are important not only as isolated clinical cases. They strengthen treatment options in the region. The development of image-controlled minimally invasive therapies provides more choice for selected patients. International cooperation also helps to strengthen local expertise.
