Minimally Invasive Liver Cancer Treatment in Klaipeda

A 70-year-old patient who was diagnosed with liver cancer did not have the opportunity to undergo surgery.

For Klaipėda University Hospital , this case became the starting point for a different clinical solution.

Instead of open surgery, the head of the KUL Interventional Radiology Center Algimantas Šimkaitis and his team chose a minimally invasive method. Using video control technology, microwave ablation needles were inserted directly into the tumor, and the lesion was destroyed by heat without damaging the surrounding tissues.

The effect of treatment is already visible in the patient’s recovery process. Strength and appetite gradually return, and the general condition improves without the heavy burden of the operation.

In such cases, the most important thing is the practical benefits: a shorter recovery period, less physical stress and, most importantly, the possibility of applying treatment when standard surgery is not possible. Minimally invasive methods change the course of treatment – it is not only an alternative, but also a necessary part of modern oncology care.
