In Klaipeda, May 31. – 1 June held at the scientific practical conference “Ultrasound Diagnostics 2024. Women’s Endocrine Health” in collaboration with Terum Europe focused more on the topic of Pelvic Venous Full Blood Syndrome .
During her presentation at the conference Saulė Bikauskaitė introduced the Pelvic Venous Full blood Syndrome (DVePS). As a rule, DVePS is characterized by pelvic venous insufficiency and varicose veins of the pelvis. A component of the pelvic venous fullness syndrome (DVePS) can be chronic pelvic pain (CDS) – recurrent or persistent pain in the abdomen or pelvis, lasting at least 3-6 months in the absence of a known pelvic etiology. About 33% of women suffer from this pain.
The diagnosis of DVePS and the prospects for treatment were presented by LSMU prof. dr. Adrius Gaurilčikas, who indicated that magnetic resonance venography or, in order to exclude other causes, computer or magnetic resonance imaging studies are usually used to diagnose the syndrome. As one of the methods of treatment, a minimally invasive procedure was presented – embolization in spirals. The clinical success rate of this treatment is very high (70-85%), and it causes patients to feel less discomfort and lower costs.
