The training for interventional radiologists in the Baltic States was conducted by Andrius Pranculis, Head of the Interventional Radiology Department at Panevėžys Hospital, who presented an innovative method of treatment to relieve joint pain.

During molting, Latvian and Estonian specialists got acquainted with the procedure of embolization of the arteries of the knee joint, which is intended for patients suffering from various problems with the knee joint. The intervention is aimed at reducing pain and improving the quality of life. Having familiarized themselves with the theoretical part of the application of the embolization method, doctors were engaged in live procedures.

During the innovative joint treatment procedure, the arteries of the knee joint are embolised and thus the joint replacement operation is maximally delayed, sometimes it is even possible to avoid it. This type of treatment is applied to the knee joint, shoulder, it is also started to be applied to treat pain in the hip joint, inflammation. Embolization is a safe, fast and reliable method of treatment, after a procedure that lasts only 20 minutes, patients immediately return to the usual daily rhythm of life.

An effective method of treatment has been applied in Lithuania for several years, and it has not yet been retained in medical institutions in Latvia and Estonia, so the acquired knowledge will allow these studies to be applied in medical institutions of the Other Baltic States.
