In today’s operating environment, every action has a systemic significance – from the accuracy of the surgical decision to the nurse’s coordination and timely preparation. Due to the increasing complexity of interventions and limited resources, the perioperative team must function as a cohesive system.

The XXXVII Training Day of the Estonian Association of Operating Nurses brought together healthcare professionals to discuss what challenges are currently most affecting the work of operating departments – and what solutions could be the response.

During the event, we talked about practical tools that allow us to increase the transparency of processes, reduce the likelihood of human errors, use time and tools more efficiently, and create a smoother path for patients throughout the surgical process. We emphasized the fact that technological solutions must not only be functional, but also properly integrated into everyday clinical practice – otherwise they remain unexploited.

We presented how our solutions help operational teams manage time, tool availability, and data dissemination more efficiently across departments. We also discussed the application of the principles of value-based healthcare and how they can be implemented not only at the management level, but also at the level of nursing.

Today’s meetings reaffirmed that nurses’ insights – especially in the perioperative chain – are key to the formation of real-world solutions, and cross-border training becomes a useful platform for the exchange of practices and the development of universal yet contextual models.
