VUL Santarose – TACE procedure with BioPearl microspheres

At VUL Santaros Klinikos , innovations in clinical practice are applied quickly, safely and responsibly.

The first transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) procedure was performed in this hospital using innovative Biopearl (Terumo) microspheres, the procedure was performed by the head of the radiology department Dr. Marius Kurminas.

During TACE treatment, chemotherapy drugs are delivered directly to the artery supplying the tumour, while blocking blood flow – thus limiting the tumour’s oxygen and nutrient supply. The unique advantage of BioPearl™ microspheres is the ability to reach the therapeutic area again, gradually restore blood circulation and reapply intraarterial treatment, which is relevant for repeated TACE procedures. Innovative treatment with BioPearl helps reduce the risk of secondary blood vessel formation and enables more effective long-term treatment planning, especially in complex forms of liver tumors.
