Interventional oncology is becoming an increasingly important part of the treatment of liver cancer. She stresses the importance of close cooperation between specialists in different fields. Also, the need to consistently integrate these methods into daily clinical practice.
These topics were discussed at a recent session at Tartu University Hospital. It was organized by Dr. Martin Reim. In his introduction, he presented the most important clinical, technological and systemic issues. The event ended with an open discussion. It discussed not only clinical practice, but also innovations and reimbursement challenges in interventional oncology.
The session was attended by specialists who actively contribute to the development of this field. The experience of Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos was presented by abdominal surgeon Dr. Rokas Račkauskas and interventional radiologist Dr. Donatas Jocius. They emphasized the practical development of interventional oncology services. He also stressed the importance of a multidisciplinary approach.
One of the main conclusions of the discussion is that strong cooperation between interventional radiologists, abdominal surgeons and oncologists is necessary. Only through coordinated decision-making can the most appropriate treatment be selected. These can be both individual therapies and individually tailored combinations of them.
Prof. Stefan Weber (University of Bern, Cascination) presented AI-based planning. As well as stereotactic navigation in image-controlled procedures. He emphasized that this increases the accuracy, reproducibility and overall precision of the treatment.
The program also included a presentation by Evaldas Gražis, the head of AmberCell Solutions . He discussed the economic feasibility of minimally invasive liver cancer treatment methods. He also singled out the most important economic aspects for hospitals and health care institutions. This theme highlighted the need to combine clinical innovation with sustainable financial models.
Throughout the session, a lot of attention was paid to the quality of treatment. The need for structured planning was discussed. Also, the selection of the most suitable methods. The ability to ensure full coverage of the tumor is also important. At the same time, the aim is to reduce the differences in results between different specialists.
Interventional oncology continues to develop rapidly. Therefore, strengthening multidisciplinary cooperation remains crucial. This includes both the clinical and the economic level. The main goal is to ensure the best possible results in the treatment of patients.
