On 7 May, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) hosted a scientific conference “Perspectives for the Development of the Health System and Law”, the main focus of which was the integration of the principles of Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) into the national health policy.

The conference was attended by experts from various fields – health policymakers, legal specialists, doctors, managers and representatives of the academic community. Presentations and debates have focused on the systemic barriers to the transition from a quantitative to a results-based assessment model.

Highlights include:

  • The VBHC is presented as a strategic direction based on the European model of four dimensions of value – personal, technical, distributive and societal.
  • Current systems of reimbursement of services and public procurement still tend to promote the quantity of services rather than the result achieved by the patient.
  • Artificial intelligence is identified as a necessary but responsible tool for the modernization of the health system.
  • The Patient Welfare Centre of Klaipėda University Hospital was presented as a practical step towards solutions tailored to the needs of patients.

The Ambercell Solutions team participated in the conference by observing discussions on health policies and practical implementation challenges. For us, as providers of medical technology and solutions, value-based healthcare is the direction we identify with, both in the development of solutions and in the assessment of their impact on the patient, the doctor and the system as a whole.

The direction of VBHC is associated not only with clinical benefits for the patient, but also with a more transparent, sustainable and cost-effective development of the health system. This shows once again that result-oriented solutions are becoming not only part of the debate, but also of policy-making.
