The Competence Centre at VUL Santaros Clinics <\/a>hosted continuous training for interventional oncology specialists from Riga Eastern University Hospital in Latvia<\/a> and Pauls Stradi\u0146\u0161 Clinical University Hospital<\/a>. The two-day training “Minimally invasive treatment in liver and thyroidcancer management” was implemented in cooperation with Terumo Europe as part of the Learning Edge Program. Interventional radiology and surgery professionals from Latvia Health Care institutions gained experience from the VUL Santaras Clinics interventional radiologists Dr. Donatas Jocius, dr. Marius Kurminas and abdominal surgeon Dr. Rokas Ra\u010dkauskas.<\/p>\n\n

The participants of the training gained experience both by drawing on knowledge in lectures of colleagues and by participating in several live minimally invasive cancer treatment procedures: Dr. Donatas Jocius performed the procedure of qualitative ablation of the treatment of liver metastases using the Terumo TATO<\/a> microwave ablation system in combination with the CASCINATION CAS-One IR<\/a> system, which facilitates decision-making during the procedure by ensuring visibility and accuracy, approval and evaluation of the chosen treatment method, thus ensuring patient safety and the effectiveness of procedures.<\/p>\n\n

The second part of the training was devoted to the presentation of minimally invasive thyroid treatment solutions, led by interventional radiologist Dr. Juozas Jara\u0161unas. During the education, the doctor shared valuable insights and practical advice, while sharing his practical experience, he performed microwave ablation of the thyroid gland.<\/p>\n\n

Microwave ablation is a type of thermal ablation used in interventional radiology to treat cancers of the liver, lungs, bones, thyroid, and more. This minimally invasive procedure allows flexible treatment approaches, including percutaneous, laparoscopic, and open surgical access and offers significant patient benefits, including shorter hospitalization, faster recovery, and fewer complications compared to surgery. The purpose of these trainings is opportunity to learn about advanced cancer treatment methods by presenting the indications and contraindications of minimally invasive treatment methods, possible complications, and emphasizing important aspects before starting to perform minimally invasive procedures. Single-center experience with an evidence-based spectrum of minimally invasive liver oncology solutions including surgery, ablation, TACE, TARE, and electrochemotherapy.<\/p>\n\n
