At the VUL Santaros Clinics,<\/a> electrochemotherapy<\/a> of a liver tumor was performed for the first time at the end of March using the Cascination decision-making system Cas One IR<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

During electrochemotherapy, less CT scans are performed using this AI-powered navigation system, as a result of which the patient receives a smaller amount of radiation, at the same time the procedure takes less time.<\/p>\n\n

During the procedure, while navigating and relying on cas one-IR data, interventional radiologist Donatas Jocius performs the process with precision, since with proper guidance, the electrodes used during the treatment are hit directly at the area damaged by the cancer cells – in this way, the surrounding tissues are preserved, the patient’s recovery period is shorter than with surgical interventions.<\/p>\n\n

Electrochemotherapy is a combination of electrical impulses and anticancer<\/a> drug methods, a fairly new, innovative addition to cancer treatment methods. The procedure involves the synergistic application of electrical impulses and chemotherapy, when specialized electrodes are inserted directly into and around the tumor. Short electrical impulses transmitted by electrodes create short-term pores in the membranes of tumor cells (electroporation), so chemotherapeutic drugs penetrate better into tumor cells, thereby improving their efficiency. <\/p>\n\n
